"As good as jazz gets," writes the International Herald-Tribune of the trio of Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette. One of the world's quintessential and most popular jazz trios makes its first Bay Area appearance in eight years on October 14 at the Masonic Auditorium. This rare San Francisco performance celebrates the group's remarkable new ECM recording "Live at the Blue Note: The Complete Recordings," a six-CD anthology documenting all six sets of the trio's phenomenal engagement at the Blue Note in New York City last year.

Renowned for his solo free-form improvisational concerts, Jarrett has earned recognition as one of the most creative musicians of our time. More than 12 years ago he recruited Peacock and DeJohnette into this exquisitely empathetic ensemble with the sole intention of performing "standards." The trio has recorded 11 albums for ECM, including "Bye Bye Blackbird," dedicated to the late Miles Davis, with whom all three musicians performed at key periods in their careers. Critics have raved about the incomparable freshness and artistry the trio brings to the classic American songbook. In the words of Stereophile, "when it comes to Keith Jarrett's Standards Trio, I've learned to expect miracles." Those miracles manifest themselves at the Masonic on the second night of the San Francisco Jazz Festival.
