Modern Day Jazz Stories is a keystone recording for the new Antilles - progessive, innovative, streetwise, with deep roots, and always looking ahead.

On his return to Antilles and his debut with the Verve Group, Courtney Pine reaches out to uncharted musical zones, reflecting the sound of the street in a modern mix of pop, hip hop, and jazz music.

Modern Day Jazz Stories is Courtney's most focused album to date. He combines the two worlds of jazz and hip hop, utilizing the traditional sounds of jazz instruments simultaneously with turntables, but without overdubs.

By incorporating DJ Pogo (who won the World DJ Championship) as an actual performing member of the band, able to interact, solo, and trade fours, Courtney has assimilated many of his previous influences into a tourable sound, a format which will find its way to the clubs this fall. This is one show you won't want to miss.

Courtney's previous recordings include Journey To The Urge Within, Destiny's Song, Within The Realms Of Our Dreams, Closer To Home, and To The Eyes Of Creation where the styles range from jazz, to African, to Indian, to reggae, to free jazz and his influences of John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman surface.

In addition to his own recordings, Pine has been a featured guest on Mick Jagger's "Wandering Spirit"; the Larry Adler tribute album, "The Glory of Gershwin", produced by George Martin, with Elton John, Sting, and Cher; and Guru's acclaimed "Jazzmatazz", which was followed by a sell-out tour.
