something to eat, because I was the only one who was married, there

you know?  I wanted that again."

Although The Main Ingredient is Shirley Horn's eighth Verve recording, it is a recording of many firsts for Shirley; her first recorded performances with Roy Hargrove, Joe Henderson and Elvin Jones, the first recording of all ten songs (including two written for Shirley), and the first professional recording in her home.

The Main Ingredient is the music. Shirley and her guests kept their focus and captured some very special moments and the feeling that she sought when she began this project.

It doesn't get more intimate than attending dinner and a private concert in Shirley's living room with several of today's top jazz musicians.
